Patrick Farrell's Pulitzer prize-winning selection of photographs

Patrick Farrell's photographs of the aftermath of last year's hurricanes in Haiti won him the Pulitzer prize this week. Below is one of the photographs.

I think human compassion for the suffering of others is an opportunity for us to think about what really matters to us... LOVE ABOVE ALL ELSE, and thence to point our lives in the direction of love, and compassion and peace. What we must take from the suffering of others, is a determination to help those who need help whenever we can, to avoid causing harm where-ever we can. The world needs us all to be magnificent. The world needs us all to be radical visionary peacemakers and love creators.

These pictures, although moving, are very harrowing. You probably should have someone nearby ready to hug you after looking at them.
